In response to a post I wrote last month about coffee hair rinses, I decided to give it a go and see for myself what I thought.
To make this rinse, you basically just make some coffee. I used three big tablespoons of coffee (make you use normal coffee as you need the caffeine to work on your hair, so anything decaffeinated is a big NO).
I then boiled some hot water and diluted it with cold water so that the coffee wouldn’t be too hot when it came time to rinse.
After dry hair co-washing (massaging conditioner into my hair before water), I rinsed a bit of the conditioner out with water then rinsed the rest with coffee, making sure to massage my scalp to allow the caffeine to do its thing.
To intensify the rinse, and because my hair was due a deep condition, I applied my Vitale olive oil hair mayo and let it sit on my hair for forty minutes before rinsing everything out completely.
It may too soon to say, but one thing I definitely noticed about this rinse was that my hair carried a faint smell of coffee for a few days; so I think that next time I try this I’ll adjust my coffee-water ratio. Another thing I noticed was that after a while my mouth started feeling weird, which was probably the coffee beginning to seep into my body; so again I think that next time I try this I’ll adjust how long I keep the rinse in. When I woke up the next morning, my hair felt a little waxy but I was able to remedy this by applying some leave-in conditioner.
