Forget out in-flight entertainment, these are the in-flight skincare essentials you need if you want to ensure hydrated and nourished skin.
It’s no secret that aeroplanes are known to be void of all moisture – in fact, they seem to suck all moisture and water from your skin – thanks to the high altitude, air circulation and low humidity. So how can you prevent your skin from feeling dry and dehydrated?
In-flight skincare essentials
If you don’t want to walk off the plane looking like a zombie, the only thing you need is moisture, moisture, moisture. Aside from keeping yourself hydrated with water on the flight, an in-flight skincare routine can do wonders. Over the years, I’ve perfected my skincare routine (though there’s always room for improvement), and on my most recent flight returning from Greece, it really came in handy.
Face & hands
In the past, I would exclusively use the Nivea Soft Cream, but this year I had two newbies. The first was the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream (okay, so this isn’t exactly a newbie, but it was the first time I’d brought it on the plane with me), and the next was the cult favourite Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask.
I started with the Fresh moisturiser and applied it all over my face. This lightweight cream is good because it’s packed with damask rose and hyaluronic acid to ensure continuous hydration while helping to strengthen your skin barrier. A stronger skin barrier means your skin can retain more water and moisture. However, as great as this cream was, it wasn’t enough to handle the lack of moisture on the plane…
…so I topped up with the Summer Fridays face mask. This multi-use mask is awesome because not only can you use it as a face mask, but you can also use it as a hand cream. After (repeatedly) slathering this all over my face, I put it all over my hands to help with the dryness.
Lips
This was the first year my lips really felt the brunt of the dryness – could it be because I’m getting older? Luckily I had the Fresh Petal Soft Lip Cream and the Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Rescue Ointment to hand because they both played a big part in keeping my lips together, even though I was reapplying them like crazy.
On a day-to-day basis, the Fresh Lip Cream is such a dream. The balmy yet creamy formula soothes the lips, keeping them gently moisturised and hydrated for hours at a time. In fact, I rarely reapply throughout the day unless I’ve purposely wiped it off to eat, so for the first 45ish minutes of the flight, this lip balm did everything it needed to do to keep my lips on top form.
But when you’re over 30,000 feet in the air, you need to pull out the big guns. And that’s where the Fresh ointment came in. This uber-thick luxurious salve is specifically designed to help soothe dry patches, so when I felt the lip cream slowly wearing off, I covered my lips with the ointment.
Like I said, there’s still room for improvement so I’d love to know what you do to ensure your skin feels and stays hydrated throughout your flights. If I take another overseas trip this year, I’ll be sure to update you on any changes to my in-flight skincare routine.
