Over the weekend I popped into Holland & Barrett to stock up on work snacks, namely cashews, almonds and walnuts – I love their nuts and you can always rely on them for some great offers! As such, I’ve spent the week munching on walnuts and enjoying their soft yet crunchy taste and getting that weird papery texture in my mouth from eating too many. While I’ve been satisfying my hunger (and trying forcefully to get bits out of my teeth lol), I’ve also been looking into some of the health benefits of eating walnuts.
First of all, walnuts seem to be an all-around amazing nut – but I mean, aren’t they all? Packed with iron (which is perfect for those of us anaemic folk), magnesium, vitamin b6 and omega 3s, they have been linked to good heart and bone health, reducing the risk of stroke, heart attacks and other cardiovascular diseases. They’re also a great source of healthy fat and protein. Something especially interesting that I discovered, is that walnuts are said to be extremely useful for weight management. This is probably due to them making you feel fuller. I haven’t really experienced this myself this week, but there is science out there which supports this theory.
You can bet that I feel extra smug snacking on these bad boys now that I know how great they are. Excuse me while I get back to munching.
