Happy New Year! Today I’m talking about a topic I should’ve posted months ago but never got the chance to. Tea tree oil.
Okay, so I’ve known that tea tree oil is amazing for the hair and scalp, but had no idea it could also be great for another body part: nails. I stumbled upon this fact a few months ago when I was looking for natural remedies to help with a nail infection (I’ll touch more on this in Friday’s post).
One of the main things to know about tea tree is that it’s a natural disinfectant and has been used to treat everything from irritation, cuts and acne to help soothe skin and look after infections. When I first read that tea tree oil could be used to treat fungal nail infections, I immediately headed out to Holland & Barratt to purchase some tea tree oil.
However, another thing that really drew me to the stuff was that it’s great for strengthening, moisturising and repairing damaged nails. Now, as someone who’s been wearing nail varnish non-stop for over ten years, it’ll come as no surprise that my nails are not the healthiest or strongest they could be, thanks to the chemicals in nail varnish.
I’ve been using tea tree oil for a nail infection on and off for the last couple of months. While I still have the infection (most likely due to my inconsistency), I have noticed how soothed and nourished my nail bed is after use.
It’s important to remember that tea tree can be quite strong so it’s advised that you dilute it with an oil like coconut oil, vitamin e or olive oil.
