A few months ago I read an article on CurlyNikki about using rice water to wash your hair. The article mentioned how washing hair with the water that came from rinsing rice was a practice used in oriental Asia, and helped women grow their hair long, thick and healthy. Rice water helps stimulates hair growth, cleanses hair and even makes a great face toner. Ever since I’ve been on a mission to give the rinse a try, which proved way more difficult than I could have expected solely because rice is needed. Whenever I tried to time boiling rice with when I wanted to wash my hair nothing would go right and before I knew it months had gone by. It wasn’t until the other day when my sister was boiling rice noodles that I finally got another chance to try the rinse. Though CurlyNikki’s article had only mentioned actual rice grains, I figured rice noodles were close enough to grains and I’d try this variation while I could then do the real rinse another time.
To try this rinse you’ll need to have boiled rice noodles (or rice, any kind is fine) and collected the water after draining it from your pan – it’s really that simple. Once the water is collected, cover it and leave it for two to three days to ferment (this stimulates the nutrients giving your hair even more benefits).
Not quite satisfied with the water on its own, I added two tablespoons of honey then stirred the mix.
I used this rinse after co-washing my hair and before doing my Vitale Olive Hair Mayonnaise hair treatment. Before rinsing the rice water from my hair, I made sure to massage my scalp so that my hair could absorb as much of the water as possible.
And there you have it, the rinse is very simple. I can’t wait to try the actual rice water rinse and incorporate it into my regimen for improved growth and retention.
