I want to start off by saying that these brushes are probably due for a clean soon so please don’t mind the orangey tips.
Okay, so I got these brushes last month (check out the Superdrug haul here) and I’ve been using these brushes quite frequently ever since. Now, seeing as I’m new to this whole makeup/beauty thing, I had absolutely no idea how to use them or what I was doing, but figured that if I can get the hang of these brushes then anyone can.
how they’re supposed to look |
BUFFING BRUSH
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this brush so much. It’s so big and fluffy and cuddly, I could just swipe this across my face all day long. This was the only brush that I expected to be soft so I wasn’t disappointed at all. I use this for powder to set my foundation and concealer and it works a treat, covering large areas of my face at a time.
CONTOUR BRUSH
I don’t contour (or fully understand it…) so I didn’t think I’d have much use for this brush originally, HOWEVER, after my disappointment towards the appointed foundation brush in the kit (see below review), I started using this contour brush for my foundation. In my opinion, this brush works a lot better for applying liquid foundation and I loved how well it blended the product to my face. I didn’t expect the brush to be so soft, so at times it felt like it wasn’t doing anything to my face, but overall it was good. I also apply product to the back of my hand as opposed to applying it straight to the brush, so I feel like this doesn’t eat up too much of my foundation.
POINTED FOUNDATION BRUSH
When I used this brush for my liquid foundation (review to come next week!) it felt weird. It felt like I was painting a sheet of paper with one of those flat brushes from primary school. The brush for me was a bit too flat and I didn’t appreciate the way it slapped across my face (though this can also be due to my lack of technique). In all honesty, I haven’t used this brush since I first tried it…

DETAILER BRUSH
I haven’t gotten round to using this brush yet so there’s not really a whole lot that I can say about. It’s TINY, so I imagine it’ll be good for concealer (I think), lipstick, and maybe even some eyeshadow.
I think this brush set is perfect if you’re a beginner like me and you’re not really sure about what brushes to get. This set holds all the basics and the box does say which brush should be used for whatever product/face area. I bought this for £20.99 at Superdrug, so it’s kind of cheap (that works out to £5.25 per brush or less when you include the case), especially considering how expensive some brushes/brush sets can be.
the snazzy case that I still don’t know how to use properly… |
On another note, I think I was expecting the brushes to be a bit harder and to feel more sturdy, but that’s probably down to the fact that I’ve never used makeup brushes before. Aside from that though, these brushes were fab.
