I know I’ve said that after I’ve had a dark manicure I like to wear something light and neutral, so as to offset the intensity that dark nails can have, but this time I’ve made an exception.
To be honest, I didn’t even know I owned this shade until I was looking for Nightshade in my nail varnish box and came across this bottle. I went through a phase where I wanted to try every dark colour so I imagine I must have bought it during that period, because I’ve got no idea how else I could have gotten this in my possession.
Anyway, when I first put this on my nails, my first thought was: EWWWW! The colour looked brash and tacky, and I didn’t like how bright the purple contrasted against my skin. However, after the second coat, I began to see how the colour would look once my nails were completed.
And boy oh boy was I right or what? The finished colour was much darker than the original first coat, and I loved how clean and perfectly suited the colour looked. Though the finished colour was much darker, the colour was still a tad too purple for my liking.
The colour stayed the same until I put my nails in natural/bright light, when my nails turned a garish kind of purple that I absolutely hate – but I’ve been keeping my nails in the dark so I haven’t had to see that garish colour.
not too keen on how bright this looks |
This Plum shade is basically the same as Barry M’s Purple (only minus the glitter) and reminds me a little bit of Nightshade (only more purple than blue). I can see this becoming a staple for when I’m wanting to do a dark manicure, and I was pleasantly surprised at not only finding this colour, but at how nicely it came out overall. I think that next time I wear Plum, I’ll do four coats instead of three.
You can probably expect my next manicure to be a nude… or something not so dark.
