I’ve wanted to try a Murad skincare product for the longest time. After reading, hearing and seeing great results from women all over the world – including dark-skinned women of colour – the brand has been high on my skincare wishlist. So when Patricia Bright announced that her October Cosmetips Beauty Box collab would include a Murad product, I was overjoyed. The product in question? The AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.
Promising to reveal a “smoother texture and a brighter, younger-looking complexion”, this cleanser is packed with a triple-threat acid concoction made of lactic acid, salicylic acid and glycolic acid. This powerful blend polishes away dull skin without irritation. So how has the cleanser lived up to my expectations?
First Impressions
I’m not sure what I was expecting the cleanser to look or feel like, but it definitely wasn’t like the Clean & Clear Exfoliating Daily Wash. Both have a thick consistency and are white with small textured bits inside, but that’s where the similarities end. While the Clean & Clear was can feel sticky and gloopy, Murad’s cleanser is lightweight and airy.
When I rinsed it off, it feels like my face is covered in a million tiny pillow bubbles, which is strangely comforting, therapeutic and nice. I also found that afterwards, my face dried quite fast, but my face wasn’t dry or irritated.
Anything Else?
After the first use, I couldn’t really tell much of a difference in my face. Though my face felt very clean and smooth, I put this down to the fact I’d just cleansed twice with the Mililo black soap. After the second use, I broke out on my cheek, which was very surprising to me. Now, you guys know that I like to use and finish a product to get a proper idea of whether it’s for me or not. So with that in mind, I’ll give this cleanser a month or so to do its thing then decide whether or not I want to keep it in my routine.
Another thing that really surprised me was that the cleanser is only supposed to be used two to three times a week! This is most surprising to me as I was hoping it would replace my Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash.
I should also add that this cleanser would probably be more effective if I used it alongside the other products in the Hydration range.
Make sure you stay tuned to my YouTube channel because tomorrow I’ll be sharing my first time using this cleanser.
