While reading Lynette Nylander’s Top Shelf, lots of things stood out to me. From the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil I’ve been seeing around everywhere to the eye wateringly expensive Dr. Barbara Sturm products ($300 for a hylauronic serum is a LITTLE out of my price range); there was one thing in particular that really grabbed my attention: Charlotte Mensah’s Manketti Oil. Naturally, whenever I hear about a strange sounding oil I’m straight onto Google trying to figure out what it is, how it works and most importantly, IF it’ll work for me.
ABOUT MANKETTI OIL
Let’s look at the basics of this strangely named oil. First of all, Manketti oil, which has an equally odd sounding other name, Mongongo oil, comes from nuts from the mongongo tree. Interestingly, this tree doesn’t grow fruit for the first 25 years of its life.
BENEFITS OF MANKETTI OIL
When I say this oil is packed with goodness, I mean it is really P A C K E D with lots of goodness. For starters it contains omega 6 (an essential for healthy skin cells and membrane), vitamin e (helps maintain healthy skin and as an antioxidant helps combat inflammation), linoleic acid (also known as vitamin f – this is really important for healthy skin and shiny, strong hair), copper, iron, calcium, magnesium and protein.
Now, according to Charlotte Mensah’s website, her oil is a “saviour for dull, dehydrated hair” – which is perfect because something tells me that winter will be especially cruel this year – and promises to add shine, control frizz and care for the scalp. Other major bonus about this oil is that it’s great for hair that’s been chemically styled and helps combat environmental damage (ahem that cold weather I was just talking about, as well as that pesky pollution).
These days I’m less fussed about my length (though I’m hoping to realise the Rapunzel hair of my dreams) and care more about the condition and health of my hair, so this oil sounds perfect for me!
I can’t wait to get this and try it out.
