I saw this on Curly Nikki a few months ago and thought it’d be fun if I answered the questions myself for a cool Friday Q&A session. Read on to find out some facts about me and my hair journey.
What products do you use on your hair?
I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again. I am a creature of habit and tend to use the same couple of products to death. Right now I use: Blue Magic Tea Tree Oil Leave In Conditioner, ORS Monoi Oil Anti Breakage Leave In Conditioner, Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Ultra Nourishing Leave In Conditioner, IC Deep Moisture Shea Butter and Paltas BKC Leave In Conditioner Spray… and breathe…
What do you do and why do you love it?
I am a copywriter. I love it because I love writing and my job is so varied and diverse. One day I’ll be writing promotional emails and the next I’ll be looking over radio scripts and tube ads. I also write lots of editorial pieces and we’ve recently relaunched the company blog which is very exciting. My role is very research based so I spend a lot of time reading fashion blogs and news to keep up to date with all the cool things that are happening. It’s very exciting and I love learning new things every day.
What do you do for fun?
I love writing and blogging. I’m also addicted to my k-dramas and k-pop.
How do you stay healthy?
I am probably the unhealthiest person ever. I have the biggest sweet tooth and find it so hard to resist those cravings. I do try and stay active, and I’m lucky that there is always some fruit in the office. To balance out all the sweets, I try to eat loads of nuts. I recently discovered these crackers that are DIVINE. They’re from a brand called DR Krag and I can eat a whole packet in one sitting. I also walk every single day and make sure to walk up and down the escalator (as well as the five flights of stairs at work).
How has having natural hair contributed to your life/self-esteem?
I feel like having natural hair has made me feel so confident. I don’t even know why. Perhaps it’s because I feel like a more authentic version of myself? Perhaps it’s because of the timing of my life? Who even knows? I must say though, that there’s one saying I couldn’t agree more with: “If you’re not feeling your hair, you’re not feeling yourself”. Ever since I started “feeling my hair”, I’ve been “feeling myself” to the max!
What has been the best part of your natural hair journey?
The best part of my natural hair journey has been starting this blog discovering myself along the way. It’s so funny how for the longest time I didn’t pay any attention to my hair, I hardly ever moisturised or washed it, I relaxed it ALL the time and took it for granted. It’s been awesome seeing the transformation in myself.
Do you have a hair crush?
Hmm, not really. That said, I am inspired by all the great natural hair that I see, whether it be a random girl on the street, on Instagram, or wherever. Inspiration is everywhere.
Did you have a hair role model growing up?
I grew up with Brandy and her amazing braids! I always wanted my hair to look like hers.
Do you let people touch your hair?
Ha! No way – not that anyone has really even tried.
Have you had negative natural hair experiences?
Not really. So far my natural hair experiences have been fairly positive.
What advice do you have for other women?
As cliché as it sounds, going natural is a journey (hence why it’s often referred to as a natural hair journey). Try not to put pressure on your hair or yourself and try to experience it all because before you know it, three years would have passed and you’ll be grateful for all the things you’ve learned.
I hope you had fun reading! Happy Friday.
