I have soft skin. In fact, my skin is so soft, I’m constantly receiving compliments about how soft it is. On one occasion I even had a friend of a friend who I had never met before, tell me how soft my skin is. While on the one hand, I feel like my soft skin is down to genetics, I can also attribute my insanely soft skin to two simple things: exfoliation and moisturising.
Exfoliating
I only exfoliate once a week, but on the days when my skin just feels extra gritty and gross, I’ll exfoliate maybe twice a week. Before this, I was probably exfoliating about three to four times a week, which I now know is bad because it can damage your skin. Growing up, I also used to use those scrub things, but after discovering how gross they are (a literal hotbed for bacteria and germs to breed and hibernate), I stopped using them. To get extra smooth skin, you should always exfoliate before shaving, and if possible you should shave in colder temperatures as this will encourage more hairs to come to the surface of the skin. You can thank Bethenny Frankel for that tip! I’m currently using the Palmers Cocoa Butter Body Scrub. It’s thick and creamy and makes me smell like a bar of chocolate – yum!
this always leave me with buttery soft creamy skin |
Moisturising
Now this one is so straightforward and easy, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who just don’t do it. I moisturise every single morning before I get dressed. As a Black person, I know all about the troubles with having dry ashy looking skin, so moisturising is more out of necessity than anything else. I’ve documented and bemoaned of my struggles finding the right moisturiser, but I’ve finally found one that meets my exacting standards. I’m currently using the Nivea Irresistibly Smooth Body Lotion.
this stuff is honestly the best! |
Finding the exfoliator and moisturiser that works for you is so important, as both will contribute to smooth and soft skin. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m to see if there’s a way to insure my velvety soft skin.
