Hahahaha, just last week I was raving about how much I loved sunflower oil and how I never did my hair without some kind of sunflower oil concoction, but look at me now, about to rave about another cooking oil.
I’ve been wanting to try a hot olive oil hair treatment for a while, but being a huge fan of my sunflower oil (see previous post) and forgetfulness, I just hadn’t gotten around to it. Olive oil is definitely one of those miracle oils (up there with coconut, sunflower, jojoba, castor and many more) that naturals and hair people alike rave about for its innumerable benefits. It helps protects hair follicles and protects against hair loss, adds shine, improves hair elasticity, penetrates the hair shaft preventing breakage, and repairs damaged hair.
When using olive oil, I found it was a lot lighter than sunflower oil. This could have been because of the different brands of both oils, but my hair definitely felt a lot lighter throughout my hair was process, and even a week later my hair still felt different. After doing this hot olive oil hair treatment, I deep conditioned my hair with my all-time favourite Vitale Olive Oil conditioner and I think the addition of extra olive oil really helped my hair remain feeling healthy and nourished.
Looks like I’m going to have to start alternating between sunflower and olive oil in the future.
