I have/had a real love-hate relationship with this body lotion. Let me explain.
I struggle with body lotion. I often find that products are too thin for my skin and don’t offer great coverage and that they’re not catered to people like me. If you’re dark skinned like me, you’ll know what I mean – moisturising (especially after showering) only to find that your skin has turned an ashy grey and no. However, I’ve recently been on a Nivea binge, and they’ve really proved themselves to me a trustworthy brand that delivers on moisture even with a not so great consistency (Nivea Express Hydration Body Lotion I’m looking at you). When I saw this lotion on the shelf I was excited to try because it was suited for dry to very dry skin, which I read as: WILL NOT LEAVE YOUR SKIN GREY AFTER USE.
Fast forward a few weeks to my first time using it and oh my god, what did I get myself into? The consistency was WAY too thick, probably the thickest body lotion I’ve ever used in my entire life. It took so much energy for me to rub this into my skin that by the time I was finished, I was sweaty and in need of another shower… I kid you not.
After about a week (or probably less), I started moaning every morning when I had to apply this because of the sheer effort it took. I hated moisturising, I hated the fact I had picked this, and I hated that I had been so gullible to believe that my skin could ever be “very dry”. I honestly couldn’t wait to be done with it. But then something crazy happened. I came to the end of the bottle and suddenly didn’t want it to finish. So much so that I cut the bottle open to really scrape the bottle clean.
SIDENOTE: always remember to cut open your bottles. As bootleg as it may seem, there is always a ton of product left in the bottom.
Aside from the fact that using this body lotion felt like a full body workout, I absolutely loved it. My skin had stopped ever being grey (including first thing in the morning) and I had forgotten what dry skin felt like. Every single day my skin was glowing and bronze.
So, will I buy it again? Despite my major gripe, I want to know what it’s like in the winter when my skin can get REALLY dry. You can expect another post once the temperatures really drop.
