When I say that I’ve been meaning to write a proper post about the Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser for months, I really mean it. But now it seems that so much time has passed, I’ve already finished using it and it’s time to write a final review. I’m still in shock at how an aimless scrolling of Instagram could lead to me purchasing probably my favourite skincare item of the year. I’ll forever be grateful to Felicia Walker of This That Beauty and Face Flawless Skin for recommending this cleanser. You may have been seeing glimpses of this cleanser on the blog over the last couple of months, but today I’m getting into all of the details about it.
First Impressions
Having returned from Spain with my face looking very worse for wear, this cleanser helped bring my face back to normal. So much so, that after the first wash, my face already looked deeply cleansed and brighter. Within days, all the spots that had accumulated over the course of my holiday had completed cleared!
What I Liked
I loved that even though it was an exfoliator, it was still gentle enough for me to use every day, twice a day (even though I’m not 100% sure it’s recommended). I loved how seamlessly it fit in with my skincare cleansing routine and how it polished and buffed my face without feeling like it was stripping my skin of its natural oils. In fact, after every use, my face felt like I’d been treated to a mini facial at a spa. This cleanser also had a light orange fragrance which was not overpowering and added to the spa-like feeling.
Despite being an exfoliating cleanser, I also found that it could get very creamy depending on how much was applied. As I was a bit unsure of whether or not I could use it twice a day, I used a pea-sized amount in the morning to clean off my nighttime skincare and the overnight dirt; and used a more generous amount in the evening to remove any excess dirt, makeup and grime to prep my skin for my nighttime skincare products.
I can’t say this cleanser completely stopped my reoccurring spots, but it definitely did a little somethin’-somethin’. I noticed that the typical spots I would normally get on my chin and forehead were few and far between (mostly whenever I ate junk food), and that any spots I did end up getting, never stayed for longer than three days – I kid you not! Whenever I was battling with a particularly unruly whitehead, I would use this cleanser alongside the Fresh Sugar Face Polish for a double exfoliation routine.
Final Thoughts/Anything Else?
I honestly loved this cleanser so much! It was the first time I’d bought something that another influencer had recommended and I have no regrets at all. Even though it was a lot pricier than other cleansers I’d bought in the past, I thought it was worth every single penny. Also, as my very first time trying a product from Clarins, I’d say it gave me a great impression of the brand. I look forward to buying more from them in the future.
I’m also happy to say that this cleanser got the seal of approval from my brother and sister as well.
Will I Buy It Again?
Omg yes! In a recent skincare haul I did at Fresh, I bought their newest strawberry cleanser which meant there wasn’t much use in rebuying this Clarins cleanser just yet. However, once I finish with that cleanser, you can expect to see more of this.
