We’ve always known than clay masks are great for purifying and detoxifying skin, but did you know you could do the same thing for your hair? Enter the Crème of Nature Clay & Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask. After going a full month without washing my hair, my hair was in desperate need of detoxifying – especially after travelling to and from Malta – and this hair mask was just the thing that I needed to refresh my hair. If the packaging looks a bit familiar, that’ll probably be because it looks a lot like the Crème of Nature Pure Honey Moisture Replenish & Strength Hair Mask that I’ve been using for the last couple of months.
First Impressions
Overall I would say I had a good first impression of this clay mask. I’m a big fan of Crème of Nature products already, so I knew I would like this hair mask. I’m also a massive fan of their Crème of Nature Pure Honey Moisture Replenish & Strength Hair Mask (which looks a lot like this mask) so that also worked in its favour as well. I really loved how different this mask is to all the other hair mask I have, and how it was able to refresh both my hair and scalp. It got rid of a lot of dirt that had built up from my holiday, commuting in polluted London and life in general.
One thing that I really noticed about the Crème Of Nature Clay & Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Detoxifying Clay Mask, was the smell. Usually, I’m not too bad with smells, but this clay mask was something else. It honestly smelt so disgusting and had a very strong clay-like scent to it… duh. If you’re not a big fan of the smell of clay, then I would definitely be wary of that.
Immediately after rinsing my hair felt significantly fluffier and lighter – like all the dirt from travelling and pollution had been lifted from my scalp and hair. I’ve not felt this lightweight feeling in a really long time, so that definitely impressed me a lot. I also noticed that after rinsing, the strong clay smell had subsided a bit and was almost floral.
Anything Else?
When it came for my once-a-week styling the following week, I did find that my hair was quite dry (despite me moisturising it every morning) and a bit knotted. As clay can be quite drying, I want to blame the condition of my hair on the mask. I also think the dryness could be a result of not using the full Clay & Charcoal system, so I’ll be looking to get the other products in the line. Compared to the Crème of Nature Pure Honey Moisture Replenish & Strength Hair Mask that added moisture and nourishment to my hair, I would say that this clay mask is more of a cleanser and purifier. So whereas I would use the pure honey mask a lot, I think I could only use this clay mask if my hair was extra greasy or in need of some TLC.
To help bring nourishment and moisture back to my hair, I put a lot of my usual styling products in. In the future, I’ll also start spraying my hair in the morning after using this hair mask, to make sure my hair doesn’t dry out.
As first impressions go, I was very impressed with this hair mask. Even though I’ve only used it once, I really love it and would definitely recommend it. I look forward to seeing if there’s a major change in my hair by the time I finish this tub.
