If you’ve been reading my blog recently you’ll probably recognise this Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Botanical Cream Deodorant from my new Currently Using series and from my post about probiotic skincare. If you haven’t been reading lately (or it’s your first time here – welcome!) then let me start off by saying that probiotic skincare is having a moment right now. For all the details about probiotic skincare, you can read my post about it here. To put it briefly this new type of skincare helps fight against pollution, daily stressors and free radicals to leave you with radiant, even skin. Now that we’ve all got a rough idea of what probiotic skincare, let’s get on to this deodorant.
Pros
Wow where do I start? The main thing I absolutely love about this deodorant is the smell. It is so pepperminty and divine, it puts me in the best moods in the morning. As soon as I open it, I always take a massive sniff and smile happily to myself. The peppermint smells so pure and reminds me of the candy cane you get at Christmas – yummy. If you’re not a fan of peppermint then this might not be for you as the smell is quite intense.
For the longest time, I’d heard that natural deodorants were really bad an ineffective, so I was slightly apprehensive about using this one. But boy oh boy was I wrong. Not only does this smell amazing, but it makes me smell amazing too and it lasts ALL DAY LONG. This is kind of weird, but every day around 4pm, I’ll get a whiff of peppermint which instantly wakes me up. I love how compared to normal deodorants that go on wet, this deodorant goes on dry and once rubbed in, turns into a sort of powder.
I think that its natural ingredients make the deodorant so effective. Both peppermint and eucalyptus have antibacterial properties which help kill the nasty bacteria that cause body odours. These ingredients definitely make a big difference compared to other deodorants I’ve used that only seemed to mask smell instead of doing something to properly combat it.
And finally, another thing I love about this deodorant is that it’s 100% natural and aluminium free. For the last couple of months I’ve been thinking a lot about all the things I put on and in my body, and I’ve been thinking about how I can use less toxic products. While I never really worried about my skincare, one thing I definitely worried about was my deodorant. I’ve always been a bit wary of aluminium in products and how easily it can get absorbed through the skin and into our glands. And as someone who had a MASSIVE cyst in her armpit as a teenager, I’ve been increasingly vigilant about my underarms. This deodorant gives me peace of mind that chemicals aren’t seeping into my body.
Cons
And now for some cons as nothing can be absolutely perfect. Like most traditional deodorants, this one rubs off onto clothing and is very visible – especially if you’re wearing black. That said, I’ve found that it only ever rubs off on one armpit which is a little bit weird but at least it’s not on both sides, right?
I’ve also found that because you need to apply this with your hands, if you’re not ambidextrous, this can be challenging. For me as a right-handed person, this means that applying this with my left hand is tricky. I often find myself putting on way too much because it’s hard to get the right amount onto my finger and rub it in accurately without it getting all over my arm. Not knowing how much to apply is also an issue in general as I’ve never sure how much I’ll actually need/sweat. The directions advice using a “fingertip amount”, but that always seems too little for me. This is something I’m still getting the hang of, so this probably won’t stay a con for very long.
Lastly, I’d also say that the price is a tiiiiiny con. At £18 it’s more expensive than your usual deodorant (mine used to only cost £1!). However, considering how much I love it, and how much product there appears to be in the pot, it’s not the worst.
Would I Buy It Again?
Even though I’m not yet half way through the pot, I can definitely see myself buying this deodorant again. Sure it is £18 and does have a tendency to rub off onto my clothing, but I love the fact that it’s aluminium free, smells D-E-VINE and actually leaves me feeling so fresh and clean.
