In recent months I’ve written quite a bit about the importance of Vitamin C why it should be part of your skincare routine, but did you know that Vitamin C is even more important in summer? Though I had heard of how good Vitamin C can be in the summer, it wasn’t until researching for Tuesday’s blog post that I discovered just how amazing and crucial it is to be using Vitamin C in the summer. So I did a little bit of digging and found four big reasons why you need this magic vitamin in your regimen. Take a look at some of the benefits.
Brightens And Improves Skin Texture
We already know that Vitamin C is great for brightening and improving skin texture, but did you know that it can also help repair and prevent sun damage, and aid collagen production? A 2010 study found that when “5% of ascorbate [Vitamin C] was applied two hours before UVB and UVA exposure, UVB-induced skin wrinkling was reduced”. That said, it’s still important to make sure you’re wearing sunscreen every day. Now if that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is!
A Powerful Antioxidant
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals, environmental aggressors like pollution and excessive sun exposure (as mentioned above). In the summer when temperatures are high – like our heatwave the other week – having something reliable like Vitamin C to tackle these nasties affecting our skin is of high importance.
Advances Sunscreen Effectiveness
This benefit came as a surprise at first, but after thinking about it, it made lots of sense. Incorporating Vitamin C into your skincare routine is especially important in the summer because it can help advance the effectiveness of sunscreen. Like I mentioned above, studies have shown that vitamin c can help prevent sun damage, so the thought of adding a certified sun protectant (like the Nivea Sun Q10 Anti-Age & Pigments sunscreen) on top of that, makes things all the more incredible!
Reduces Dark Spots
And finally, what better time to be all glowy and bronzed than in the summer, right? Vitamin C is the key ingredient in products that help reduce dark spots. So for clearer, blemish-free skin, topping off your skincare routine with a Vitamin C gives it a much needed boosted. I’m personally a fan of Avon Anew’s Vitamin C Radiance Maximising Serum.
